About Lesotho
The Lesotho experience is unique. The country boast breathe taking mountains bordered by ever flowing streams, and is governed by and thrives on tradition. Lesotho is dominated by the Maloti Mountains which occupy three quarters of the country. The country has ten districts and most of the population lives in the lowland which spreads across three districts out of the ten. The lowlands also have the most fertile land which is the best for agricultural activities.
Lesotho is a landlocked country in the middle of South Africa and it is highly dependent on South Africa for goods and services. The people of Lesotho are called Basotho and their language is Sesotho.
Climate
The country has well marked seasons. Summer extends from November to January and it is usually hot. Autumn is warm and winter normally extends from May to July, usually bringing snow to the Maloti Mountains. Spring brings plentiful rain around October extending into April.
During summer light clothing is the most comfortable form of attire, but it is essential to bring a rain coat. Spring and autumn clothing should include a jersey because of the cool evenings. In winter heavy warm clothing is a must.
Accommodation
Students Service Department assists students studying with us to find accommodation. Students are required to inform the department 3 weeks prior to their arrival.
How to get to Lesotho
Air: there are connecting flights on daily basis between Johannesburg and Maseru which are operated by Air Link. A flight takes approximately 1 hour.
Road: There are eleven border posts entry into Lesotho from South Africa, and the road system is well developed, however it is advisable to use a 4X4 vehicles when using ports of entry in the Maloti Mountains.
