Limkokwing University - well equipped to build Lesotho’s human capital

As new challenges arise worldwide Lesotho depends on the capability of its human capital to help the nation take full advantage of global opportunities and thereby progress the economy as we have envisaged in Vision 2020, the national blueprint for economic transformation.

As everyone is aware without a capable young generation to take over the reins of leadership, a nation is doomed, especially in these times when rapid assimilation and adaptation to change decides the rise or fall of economies. We need people to understand the complexities of this new world and help to steer the nation forward with intelligence and dexterity.

Certainly a lot depends on our ability to build the infrastructure that will enable our youths to receive the kind of education that will empower them.

Therefore I am particularly pleased with the arrival of the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, a university of global renown and bold initiatives that has agreed to set up a campus in Maseru. Limkokwing University is creating the infrastructure to move education forward with new ideas suited to the demands of this decade. It will certainly help to build industry to be able to compete successfully in a globalised world.

I am confident that Limkokwing University will respond to the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, which states that “ the following shall constitute the main policies for the higher education sub-sector during the Strategic Plan period 2005-2015:

a) Increased access (on equitable basis) to higher education.
b) Improve the relevance of higher education to make it responsible to the demands of the labour market.
c) Improve efficiency in institutions of higher learning.
d) Mainstream gender, HIV and AIDS in higher education curriculum and activities.

This will expedite our mission to create the human resource pool skilled in new media and digital technology that Lesotho needs to achieve the goals of Vision 2020 and especially to build its global competitiveness.
