Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia

Creative Multimedia is the vehicle in which emerging technologies drives home the concept of multimedia communications in business, art and design, entertainment and education.

The creative media and information businesses have always been a crucial sector of the economy. Together, the creative and media business sectors invest, produce and disseminate a huge array of content that educates, informs and entertains the public. It is this creative content that people are looking for when they are connecting to the Internet, activating their broadband connection, switching on their mobile phone or choosing a channel on their TV service. The creative and media sector is thus the true heart of the Information Society. Without it, the Information Society would be nothing more than empty pipes and boxes. The emerging content provider in the Information Society will be a professional who understands the authoring process, and who is an expert in graphics, sound, video and text content production.

The Bachelor of Creative Multimedia programme provides a comprehensive education in the principles and practices of multimedia design, production, management and evaluation. The major focus is on the integration of theory and technology, and their practical application to current and emerging industry trends. An important feature is practical problem solving in multi-disciplinary teams using current and emerging technologies. The course simulates the practice in the multimedia industry and allows students to develop more specialised skills in their chosen areas of interest and professional development. Further understanding is provided through a more theoretical understanding of the impact, meaning and implications of multimedia and its associated technology, thus providing the students with a broader sense of concept development and art direction in creative multimedia. Thus, the Graduate’s skill sets are honed not only in the usage and understanding of technology but to train the graduates to be future visionaries, creative directors and innovators of creative multimedia.

The course is largely studio based and taught by practitioners as well as academics from the field. There are visiting lecturers, guest seminar programmes and events run in partnership with regional media agencies. The modules will explore mixed-media processes, including contemporary graphics and typography, interactive media and interface design, time-based media, digital video, sound 2D and 3D animation. They provide a framework for your projects preparing you to exploit opportunities balancing aesthetics, cultural, social and commercial imperatives. The Multimedia courses focus largely on screen-based work designed and delivered on computers often including networks and the world-wide-web.
