This is a practical programme focusing on the accessories manufacturing industry. In the glamorous world of high fashion, the accessories market is recognized as a vital-and extremely lucrative part of that industry, where even top-name designers have ventured with outstanding success. The design of an accessory helps to enhance part or the overall image of a product.
It is amazing to see how fashion items; style and design evolve through time. Africa is home to hundreds of tribes and ethnicities that spawned a cultural wealth creating a breathtaking diversity of artifacts, the descendants of which are the unique handicrafts on display around the world. This uniqueness of design is one of the key elements that will shape the student’s exploration in accessories design. The design produced will be totally different from the existing global fashion and accessory design scene but still maintain a very distinct African identity as a foundation. The demand for individual, unique and innovative designs will continue and are readily employed into the industry. Knowledge on metal, fabric and leather will make it limitless for the graduates to explore the design possibilities.
The Accessories Design program route represents a challenging academic experience aimed a raising students’ visual awareness, critical abilities and aesthetic sensibilities. This programme will give graduates the opportunity towards understanding accessories and design aspect. This includes the thinking process, idea development, material studies and its usage.
Entry requirements
Pass an ‘O’ Level or an equivalent qualification from a recognition institution by the local Ministry of Education.
